About week 2049: Waking up, and it's fall again

So here I am again. With some new Week Notes for you. I’ve been migrating my old blog from stefanmeeuws.com into timespacematter.com and I’ve rebuild timespacematter.com as a static site with Astro. That’s what the php-apocalypse does for you, I guess, combined with a drive to try do some more writing in my spare time.

Watch

  • Lotte and I have been watching (or binging) Ludwig season 2. Delightful show, although the final moments of season 2 were a bit over the top for me. In general this show strikes an excellent balance between cosy mystery (an “URDER” as we call it referencing the opening titles) and funny moments. Switch off your brain and enjoy the ride.
  • Now we’ve finished we’ve moved on to Slow Horses season 6. It’s been hard to avoid spoilers on this excellent spy series but I’ve managed to so far. Halfway through the season I must say it’s great. Watch on Apple tv.
  • Another Apple tv gem, Small Prophets, once again combines comedy, drama and mystery, as the main character tries to find his missing girlfriend by using old alchemy tricks and raising homunculi. It has a wonderful folky vibe and soundtrack and episodes are currently releasing weekly on Apple tv (although UK folks can binge all of it on iPlayer).

Listen

  • The quote from the title of these week notes comes from Ada Lea’s baby blue frigidaire mini fridge (video on YouTube here), from 2025’s When I Paint My Masterpiece. It actually reflects my mood, regarding the falling of leaves from our oak tree in the garden and the major cold I’m having today.
  • The new Michael Kiwanuka album Fudge has arrived on bright pink vinyl and it sounds promising. It has some rougher edges and a moodier vibe. I’m gonna listen to this a lot.
  • The National’s annual Cherry Tree album (volume 8) also arrived, and it’s a live recording dating back from the Sleep Well Beast days. In my life, it was also when Lotte and I met, so it’s a nice flashback to those early lovely days.

Plans

  • Hopefully this week we can go and see the new Laika feature, Wildwood. The connection with The Decemberists excites us (they contributed to the soundtrack, and the singer wrote the source material novel series), and the many positive reviews / hype only adds to that excitement.
